One of the main reasons why I am such an avid user of essential oils is due to their non-toxic make up. I have been able to replace household cleaners and personal care items with these gentle potions. For instance, my spray bottle at home contains tap water and 5-10 drops of Oregano for spraying down counter tops, sinks, toilets and tubs. Long gone are the days of scouring the bathtub with bleach, this new combination is just as effective and leaves no nasty aroma or headache. My facial moisturizer has been replaced with coconut oil and a few drops of Lavender or Frankincense. I save money using these products and I do not have to sacrifice the health and well being of my family or my pets. Natural deodorant is all the rage currently and I am glad to see people hopping on the bandwagon. Not only can cheap store bought deodorant cause breakouts and irritation in those with sensitive skin but also most contain aluminum, an ingredient linked to disease. One easy deodorant recipe calls for coconut oil, baking soda, arrowroot powder and a few drops of your favorite essential oil. You can whip this up and save it in a glass jar and just use a teaspoon per pit every morning or as often as needed. I really enjoy the bacteria busting combination of sweet smelling Bergamot and earthy Patchouli. These two essential oils combat noxious odors quite well and together create a sultry yet fun aroma. Bergamot eases stress and tension while allowing the heart chakra to open and flourish. Patchouli helps to ground our bodies and minds while encouraging the root chakra to maintain a strong connection to the earth. This scent will encourage a positive attitude along with confidence and ease. Men and women can use this concoction since the aroma isn’t overly feminine in nature. Beyond a feel good attitude your body will be smelling fresh all day long, now that is a win-win situation! If you’re feeling a little dirty after a long day spent in the garden come by the spa for a foot soak featuring this magical combination. The treatment will be sure to leave you feeling refreshed and ready for the spring season.
