Synergy Series: Ginger and Spearmint

I love sharing knowledge on essential oils and their wide array of health benefits. It is also imperative that users beware of the cautions and warnings printed on the bottles. Essential oils are quite powerful and very healing but they can be harmful when used without discretion. Many people lack the proper education on these healing tools and then begin use before they’ve read any literature on the possibility of misuse or overuse. Please take the necessary time to research those oils you’re planning to use before applying to yourself or a loved one. And remember these are concentrated forms of natural substances therefore very strong. However, when used in proper dosages certain essential oils can deliver huge relief to people who may be in special or vulnerable circumstances. My blog today covers a combination of Ginger essential oil and Spearmint essential oil. These two are known antispasmodics and make for an incredible morning sickness blend. While many people question the safety of essential oils during pregnancy both Ginger and Spearmint have been shown to safely deliver relief when used with caution on pregnant woman. That being said, should you have ever suffered a negative reaction from either of these compounds it would be wise to avoid use until after the pregnancy, if at all. Still, I can attest to the immense relief provided by this blend as I used both of these oils during my pregnancy with my son. I slept alongside a bowlful of water and Spearmint essential oil after hearing an old wives tale and shockingly awoke the next day able to get out of bed without the slightest tinge of disease. Ginger tea was a daily ritual and I would never have been able to continue my work during that first trimester had it not been for that spicy beverage. Both of these ingredients help relax the stomach and intestines so that you do not feel such a strong urge to purge. Ginger helps to warm the body and increase circulation while Spearmint promotes clear breathing and a refreshing state of mind. I know just how hard it can be to go about the simplest of daily tasks when burdened by nausea while pregnant and I can promise this combination can and will help lift that load. Please give us a visit if you’re feeling the need for some relief from morning sickness. Not only do we offer a wide variety of essential oils we also provide services from therapists who specialize in prenatal massage. Allow yourself to be pampered during this special and fatigued time in your life; not only will your body thank you but so will your bundle of joy!

Synergy Series: Bergamot and Patchouli

One of the main reasons why I am such an avid user of essential oils is due to their non-toxic make up.  I have been able to replace household cleaners and personal care items with these gentle potions.  For instance, my spray bottle at home contains tap water and 5-10 drops of Oregano for spraying down counter tops, sinks, toilets and tubs.  Long gone are the days of scouring the bathtub with bleach, this new combination is just as effective and leaves no nasty aroma or headache.  My facial moisturizer has been replaced with coconut oil and a few drops of Lavender or Frankincense.  I save money using these products and I do not have to sacrifice the health and well being of my family or my pets.  Natural deodorant is all the rage currently and I am glad to see people hopping on the bandwagon.  Not only can cheap store bought deodorant cause breakouts and irritation in those with sensitive skin but also most contain aluminum, an ingredient linked to disease.  One easy deodorant recipe calls for coconut oil, baking soda, arrowroot powder and a few drops of your favorite essential oil.  You can whip this up and save it in a glass jar and just use a teaspoon per pit every morning or as often as needed.  I really enjoy the bacteria busting combination of sweet smelling Bergamot and earthy Patchouli.  These two essential oils combat noxious odors quite well and together create a sultry yet fun aroma.  Bergamot eases stress and tension while allowing the heart chakra to open and flourish.  Patchouli helps to ground our bodies and minds while encouraging the root chakra to maintain a strong connection to the earth.  This scent will encourage a positive attitude along with confidence and ease.  Men and women can use this concoction since the aroma isn’t overly feminine in nature.  Beyond a feel good attitude your body will be smelling fresh all day long, now that is a win-win situation!  If you’re feeling a little dirty after a long day spent in the garden come by the spa for a foot soak featuring this magical combination.  The treatment will be sure to leave you feeling refreshed and ready for the spring season.

Geranium and Lavender

As a female I am naturally drawn to the floral essential oils more than any other scent. I believe that this particular aroma brings to mind a feminine energy and one that can be useful for both men and women. We are all made up of both yin (feminine) and yang (masculine) vibrations. When these two sides become out of balance our bodies can become tense, stressed, fatigued and down right exhausted. It is important to partake in activities that involve both the masculine and the feminine like kickboxing and restorative yoga respectively. The same goes for our self care routine. It is incredibly healing to apply essential oils from both sides of the spectrum; this helps remind our bodies to maintain homeostasis. Men and women alike can apply Frankincense for a yang boost. When I am looking for a bit of the feminine I reach for a potent combination of Lavender and Geranium. The incredibly gentle Lavender plant can calm the harshest of burns and wildest of children. Geranium is known to aid the heart in healing and can do wonders for the skin. Together these oils create a safe space where the body and mind have time to unwind, release and heal. Apply a drop of Lavender and Geranium essential oil to the face every morning for an incredibly powerful anti-aging routine. These oils both help to attack problem areas brought on by hormonal imbalance or environmental toxins. Both Lavender and Geranium chase away pessimistic thoughts and worries quite quickly. Try a drop of each on the temples and across the forehead before turning in for the night. If you’re seeking to lighten things up a bit come by the spa for a relaxing Swedish massage featuring these two beautifully scented essential oils. It may be just what you need to get this spring season started off right!
