Previously I spoke about my issues related to certain Chakras and how I have enabled my body to open up with the use of essential oils. The seventh Chakra also known as the Crown Chakra may be the one Chakra I feel has always been balanced and in harmony with the cosmos. To understand your body and mind you need to dive deeply into what drives you but also what slows you down. It is so very important to study what makes us tick and then apply that knowledge to work towards harmony within as well as harmony without. I have always dealt with impatience and intensity my entire life and while that may forever be a part of who I am, my new found relationship with those traits make me appreciate and accept them in a way I never knew how to before. I found bodywork, aromatherapy, astrology and the like. I am certain my Crown Chakra has always been free flowing because I cannot remember a time in my life where I didn’t feel so very connected to what some refer to as the natural mystic. When embarking on a walk through the wilderness I immediately notice little synchronicities that bring a smile to my face. The beauty of a sunset, the smell of the rain, the sound of a bird chirping, the strength of the wind; these things all send a chill down my spine. The Crown Chakra, when balanced, tends to create a sense of enlightenment. This is so very important when practicing healing practices like yoga, massage therapy, meditation and martial arts because it encourages transcendence. When this particular chakra becomes blocked we can feel depressed, disconnected and scattered mentally. Using Lavender essential oil regularly on our temples can help to remove these blockages and reduce fatigue. Lavender is extremely calming and helps to alleviate tension held within the body and mind. A scalp massage incorporating this particular essential oil can be one of the most healing experiences for someone hoping to free their Crown Chakra. Allow yourself a reprieve from the heat with a rejuvenating aromatherapy session at our spa this summer. This treatment is sure to get your body, mind and spirit back in alignment. Namaste.

As a child I always had very vivid dreams and on certain nights even nightmares. My nighttime fear may have stemmed from a bit of a blockage within my sixth chakra, also known as the ‘Third Eye’. This area of the body is where much of our imagination and intuition develops. When we find decision making to be quite a daunting task we may have some issues with our sixth chakra. Peppermint essential oil can be used to aid in the opening of a blocked Third Eye. When used on the temples and neck this particular oil helps release tension, mental strain, depressive tendencies and migraine symptoms. The Peppermint plant has long been used to decongest our bodies and our minds. It is one of the few oils that will act to cool one person off and then heat another person up. The oil works differently from one person to the next. It helps to connect ones mind with the body therefore strengthening memory and mental acuity. When we work with Peppermint essential oil is it important to dilute before topical application due to its strong vapor. Adding Peppermint essential oil to a steamy shower in the morning helps to awaken the senses and start the day off feeling fresh. With a clear head we are able to embark upon our day with a positive and intuitive mindset. A free flowing Third Eye results in accurate assumptions based on a strong sense of trust in the universe. We feel able to walk through life without deceiving ourselves. Don’t hesitate to stop by the spa for a luxurious scalp massage featuring Peppermint essential oil. Not only will your hair smell and feel divine but also your mental powers will be renewed. Lie back, close your eyes and allow your Third Eye to help guide you through this beautiful journey called life.
By Sarah McCallum, Massage Therapist at NLMSC I have always struggled with speaking my truth. In times where I felt the need to withhold my real feelings for the sake of another I typically ended up with a sore throat or neck ache. Whenever I tried to be strong and avoid letting the tears flow I noticed it felt like I had a lump in my throat. This area of the body is exactly where our throat chakra resides and therefore our voice is truly as much a physical component as it is an emotional one. By freeing up the blockages that often build up over time in this area of the body we are allowing ourselves to speak how it is we truly feel. When blocked, this chakra can expel physical ailments like laryngitis and thyroid problems as well as emotional issues like codependency and passive aggressive tendencies. Obviously all of these symptoms will create a fearful mentality and one that is not conducive to living a fulfilling life. Opening our throat chakra allows us to be able to communicate and navigate our emotions in a positive manner. Applying Eucalyptus essential oil to the neck and throat will help to quell any soreness in that area almost immediately. This essential oil has long been used to treat any type of cold symptom with its intensely refreshing and therapeutic aroma. Moreover, Eucalyptus essential oil has tremendously powerful decongestant properties that can help clear up blockages on a physical and spiritual level. Going through life without an authentic voice is quite debilitating for many reasons. Encourage your true self to be heard on a regular basis through practices like singing, debate, communicating and acting. Come by and see us for a scalp, neck and shoulder massage featuring Eucalyptus essential oil. Your mind and body will open to such glorious clarity after just one session. Let your authentic voice fly freely.
By Sarah McCallum, Massage Therapist at NLMSC So much of what we feel throughout life is experienced within the heart. This powerful muscle keeps our blood circulating and never misses a beat. When we begin having issues in this area they can arise in the form of arrhythmias or chest tightness. On an emotional level we may have difficulties trusting others or we may feel that life has left us alone and betrayed. The chest is an area of powerful emotion and it can also become blocked quite quickly through situations involving anger, jealousy, hatred and grief. Working through these feelings may begin to tear down the walls within the heart chakra that are keeping someone from truly feeling what it is to love. Modalities like Reiki and Aromatherapy can be amazing aids in emotional and spiritual cleansing. Basil essential oil is a great tonic for the heart. Basil as we all know is a bright green herb and the color green is associated with the heart chakra. Basil essential oil helps to cleanse the arteries and veins while removing any congestion from the chest. By applying a few drops to the sternum during a healing treatment one can encourage an opening in this area not only on a physical but also a spiritual level. A balanced heart chakra results in emotions of compassion and forgiveness. We are able to love others selflessly and fully when our heart chakras are in check. It is here in the heart where we can truly feel what it is to live. A life full of happiness and love is a very beautiful and attainable thing with the help of healing tools. Please visit us at the spa for some energy work incorporating one of our luscious bottles of essential oils. We will be sure and do our best to gently guide your body back into balance.
