I am certain that my toddler would not be able to fall asleep as easily if it weren’t for our trusty essential oils. We typically wind down in the evening with a bathtub full of warm water and a few drops of Vetiver. After the bath we take time to moisturize his skin with a bit of coconut oil and some Cedar wood essential oil. Lastly, I add a drop of Lime or Lemon essential oil to his bottle of water instead of sugary juice. He fights bedtime just as any toddler would but the oils help keep those tantrums to a minimum. While we are out during the day he occasionally throws a fit in the store or in his car seat often times because he is over stimulated and tired. I grab my bottle of Balance, an epic blend of oils used to decrease anxiety. A drop or two on his neck or feet and he is a happy camper by the time we get to our next destination. One of the oils found in this wonderful blend is called Blue Tansy. This yellow flower is native to North Africa and resembles the daisy flower. The flowers and leaves are steam distilled to create an essential oil that is actually blue in color. This essential oil is sometimes known as Moroccan Chamomile and actually has similar properties to the Chamomile plant. Blue Tansy essential oil contains antibacterial, anti-fungal, anti-inflammatory, antiviral and sedative properties. Therefore, it makes for a fabulous fever reducer, cold fighter, stress buster and sleep aid. Blue Tansy can be added to your facial moisturizer to discourage wrinkles and soothe dry skin. It is actually poisonous if taken in large quantities so be sure to start with just a drop or two, never going beyond 8 drops for one adult. Because it has such strong properties most viruses, bacteria, parasites and fungi cannot survive in its presence. If your child deals with recurrent ear infections it may actually be a signal that there is an underlying fungal infection. The continuous application of Blue Tansy to the neck and feet can discourage the fungal growth and the recurring ear infection as well. This essential oil makes for a great bug spray, just add 5 drops of Blue Tansy to a small spray bottle full of water and apply to the kids before an outdoor adventure. Not only will they stay bug free but they will also smell divine! If you’re feeling a bit irritated this holiday season drop by the spa for a relaxing reflexology treatment featuring Blue Tansy essential oil and let the tension melt away.
