As the weather starts to warm up and plants pop up all around the yard I cannot help but begin to prepare some delicious springtime dishes. Planting seeds of tomato, cucumber, pepper, lettuce and herbs has me craving large salads and lighter fare. I thoroughly enjoy the crisp flavors that come about during this particular season. I also get really excited to toss my food friendly essential oils into freshly squeezed juices and appetizers of all kinds. Some of my favorite essential oils for this time of the year include Wild Orange, Peppermint, Lime, Lemon, Cilantro, Basil and Grapefruit. The citrus oils blend wonderfully into smoothies and salads, adding the perfect zesty addition to any recipe. Lately, I have been replacing my typical oil and vinegar for an apple cider/lemon/basil essential oil combination that just can’t be beat. A simple salad of greens, tomatoes, bell peppers, pumpkin seeds, carrots and hummus topped with my new found dressing is just what the doctor ordered during these transitory weeks. Keeping yourself hydrated and well fed is very important when moving from one season to the next since this is when we are most susceptible to colds. Lemon essential oil helps to flush the internal system of toxic build up while encouraging lymphatic flow and brightening the teeth and skin. Basil essential oil is a fabulous tummy tamer and helps to keep hair strong and healthy. Blending these two oils results in a full body boost by encouraging healthy digestion and elimination. Pop a drop or two of each into a diffuser and help brighten the mood of those around you whether at home or in the workplace. This combination is androgynous in aroma and therefore enjoyed by men and women alike. Next time you’re in the mood for some spring-cleaning just cruise by the spa for a cheerfully scented foot massage including Basil and Lemon essential oil. Your body, mind and spirit will feel refreshed and ready for the spring season.
