Waxing - FAQ's

What steps occur during a wax service at North Lake Massage & Skin Care? You will be brought into a room and lay down on a table. Your skin to be waxed will be exposed and prepped with sanitizer solution and a warm towel depending on the area to be waxed. A warm wax will be applied to the area and then quickly removed with either a strip of muslin or the wax will harden and be removed without a strip. The type of wax, be it hard or soft wax, will be determined by you and your wax specialist.

What are the contraindications of waxing? NLMSC does not wax clients that are taking Accutane, using Retin-A, or are on any antibiotics that contribute to increased skin sensitivity. Menstruation will not prevent you from getting waxed, but you may feel more sensitive to it during that time.

How long should the hair be to get waxed? General rule of thumb is to let your hair grow at least 2 weeks after shaving. Which is usually about a 1/4'' in length.

How quick will my hair grow back in? The hair that was removed should not come back for about 3 or 4 weeks. More hair may grow in before as hair grows in 3 stages. That is why it is important to wax regularly about every 4-6 weeks to get your hair growth on the same cycle. Therefore causing your wax to last longer and the hair to become less and less over time for some people.

What is the difference between a bikini and a brazilian wax? A bikini wax is the removing hair on the inner thigh and along the bikini line of the pelvic area. a brazilian wax removes all the hair in the area from the front to the back.

Brazilian Waxing-FAQ's

Does a Brazilian wax hurt? It does not feel very good, but is definitely worth it. The more you keep up on your waxing though the easier it gets and the more tolerant you become to the pain.

I just shaved, how long do I need to wait to get a Brazilian wax? It is best to wait at least 2 weeks after shaving to be sure the hair is long enough and that most of the hair is grown in to wax all of it.

How long will my Brazilian wax last? The wax should last from 10 days to 3 weeks. Regular waxing at every 4-6 weeks will help the wax last longer as the hair will become more fine and soft and not grow in as quickly.

What should I expect after my Brazilian wax? You may feel a little sensitive down there. We recommend washing lightly with soap and water and a thin layer or Aquaphor to help your skin heal.

Ingrown Hair prevention -
24 hours after your Brazilian wax, we suggest using a loofa to keep the area exfoliated. This helps keep the area clean and exfoliated to help the new hairs grown in without becoming ingrown.

What to do to prevent ingrown hairs or skin irritation:

  • Avoid the sun or where sunscreen after waxing as the skin is newly exfoliated and can burn easily.
  • Try not to exercise heavily or sweat excessively immediately after a wax.
  • No sauna, hot tub or steam room for at least 1-2 days.
  • Try not to wear any tight clothes as it can cause irritation.
  • Wait 24 hours to exfoliate as the wax service already exfoliates your skin.
  • After 24 hours exfoliate regularly to prevent ingrown hairs.
  • Getting waxed on a regular basis can help minimize skin irritation
Some clients may experience irritation or a rash after waxing but will not last long. Aquaphor will help the skin calm down and heal.
